Of Knights and Smiths

As announced earlier, the long-a waited Knight changes are now in! Smithing is now a general skill that anyone can learn, and knights have received a new skill instead. The existing Chivalry/Brutality skills have been split in two, the weapon attacks are now in a new skill called Weaponmastery. Both of those skills have seen the addition of many new abilities, too - Chivalry/Brutality now includes a new concept of weapon enhancements, replacing the old smithing effects. Weaponmastery has seen the addition of various new weapon attacks, allowing for several new strategies.

Considering the significancy of the changes, we're offering, for a limited time, an option to switch your artifact weapon to a different type with the same cost, or a full tradein - contact me if you would like to do either of these. Additionally, if you had a knight profession, your spent lessons have been redistributed into the new skills; if you'd like to use these differently, you can do REGAIN KNIGHT LESSONS to get all the lessons back.

Here are the changes:

- Smithing is now a general skill

- All weapon stats have been unified - weapons of the same type all share the same stats (but see info about properties below); armours still have random stats (for now)

- Artifact weapons now provide +10%/+15%/20% damage over the non-artifact versions

- Knights now have a new skill called Weaponmastery, which contains weapon skills from Chivalry/Brutality, along with several new ones

- Most of the new Weaponmastery attacks can only be performed with a specific weapon type

- Some weapon types now have additional special properties:
* Scimitar: parried attacks still cause damage and do not trigger on-parry effects (riposte, rebuke, guarding throw, etc)
* Longsword: more bleeding damage
* Shortsword: bypasses rebounding
* Broadsword: more damage against mobiles

- Knight attacks are now performed using a COMBO (or WM) syntax, the old aliases (DSL, RSL, FSL) are provided for convenience; please note that RSL no longer dual-razes, you'll need to do a raze/raze combo for this effect

- All knights now have the Broadsword proficiency, in addition to the one selected using CHOOSE PROFICIENCY - this means that all knights get two free proficiencies now. You can get additional ones for 100 lessons per, as usual.

- Weapon enhancements reworked - they now only work for knights, you can find them in Chivalry/Brutality. AB CHIVALRY/BRUTALITY ENHANCEMENTS for details

- Weapons can now have properties, see AB SMITHING SMITH for a list; these modify the weapon stats and can have other effects too; most of them work for anyone

- Damage numbers on most weapon attacks tweaked a bit

- Artifact quarterstaff damage modifiers unified with the other artifacts

- Etch/Purify/Soulbind moved to Runelore(Runeguard)/Devotion/Necromancy

- Smiths can now create fullplates suited for another - the second smithing step for this one is SMITH FULLPLATE FOR <x>

- To be able to wear a fullplate, you now need both trans Weaponmastery and Chivalry/Brutality

However, the vast majority of this wouldn’t happen without our wonderful team of volunteers. Kiandre and Valethar have been with me since last year, and are instrumental with the work they have done for the…

Onward to 2021

Hi folks! This year has been a challenge on many of us, and I can only hope the next year goes by more smoothly. Having said that, we have reached the end of 2020, woo! This was my first not-quite-a-year on Imperian, and it has been a whole learning experience. It has been a bit…
