Some item handling fixes

I've fixed some problems that have recently popped up when giving items to certain mobs - this should fix humbiis and similar mobs, the butterfly quest, some oddities with the frogbaiting arena game, and likely more.

This required some changes to how item giving works, so if anything breaks, please report it in the usual way.

(Also, blame Jeremy.)
