Hello Imperian

I'm posting a more formal response to some email concerns that I've been having with players over the last few months that have come to a head with the recent raiding issues.

Let me start by saying I personally love PK. It is what started my entire love of MUDs over 20 years ago. The need to curtail aspects of PvP anything goes against my very nature. I understand how hard it can be at times to generate PK situations.

Yesterdays raiding fun brought several issues to a head that the admin have been dealing with for the last few months in Imperian. I am going to address them in this post and if you have any questions you can email me at
jeremy@ironrealms.com.

Let me start with this; I need to remind current players that Imperian is in a state of maintenance and not active development. Skuf is a part-time coder/admin. We have a couple of volunteers. The game makes enough money to pay a part-time wage and for server costs. The game has been improving in online time and revenue recently and I would love to have a full-time producer and push development more. However, the current state does not allow for major system revamps, new systems, or major events. Skuf can fix major bugs and try to streamline current systems with the current state.

There is an overarching problem of people being extremely toxic in the game, on the forums, and in discord. On the flip side, there are hundreds of issues for the smallest, pettiest things. Providing support for issues, discord, and basic customer service has become 95% of what Skuf gets to spend his time on. This has been growing more and more over the last few months. I am tempted to just close the Imperian discord which has slowly become a major problem. I have directed Skuf to ban anyone that cannot participate without lowering themselves to personal insults.

This brings us to the recent raid. Standing outside of the city, during a raid, clearly supporting the raid, without officially being part of the raid, is completely against the spirit of the raiding system. It was obviously a way to participate in the raid, without increasing the difficulty for people running into the city. It is impossible to create mechanics to stop every possible way to skirt the rules. It is impossible to create rules for every possible scenario people come up with to PK. Some of you may remember the epic PK rulebook in Achaea. This is why the main PK rule in Imperian has been "Don't be a Douchebag".

I have asked Skuf to be more aggressive in punishing people who are clearly breaking the spirit of the rules.

Hopefully, this is informational for those of you looking for some clarification on things. Again, if you have any questions, you can email me at jeremy@ironrealms.com.

2021 and Beyond

Hello Imperian! Another year passes! A few months from now will mark my second year on Aetherius. Time sure flies! However, the vast majority of this wouldn’t happen without our wonderful team of volunteers. Kiandre and Valethar have been with me since last year, and are instrumental with the work they have done for the…

Onward to 2021

Hi folks! This year has been a challenge on many of us, and I can only hope the next year goes by more smoothly. Having said that, we have reached the end of 2020, woo! This was my first not-quite-a-year on Imperian, and it has been a whole learning experience. It has been a bit…
