Throughout the later days of Ferinus, Stavenn was paid a visit by a
runaway demon named Morgo. Having been slain by Clark Lokrien, Morgo
feasted on the remains of an Imperial Page to regain his strength as he
spoke with Leisane. Finger by crunchy finger, Morgo told Leisane, and
his compatriots of his master - a demon known by many names, yet
formally called Rishi, or the Gatekeeper.
The purpose behind the Gatekeeper's business call was not something
Morgo could share with the Stavennites, however, he assured them that
the Rishi's minions were the most powerful sort. At Leisane's request,
Morgo showed them the way to Rishi, only after stopping to pick up a
young boy along the way. Once they came upon a rift between Aetherius
and the Demon Plane, they were surprised by a pulsing pentagram that was
set there before them. It enticed them. Begged them. Promised to fulfill
their wildest dreams. And all they had to do was offer the corpse of the
boy.
The Stavennites - Leisane, Elizabell, Clark, Dareni, Xaarin, Elphie,
Sagron, Sarciossis, Tek, and Orthanc - deliberated about the nature and
possible trick associated with the pentagram.
Finally, the boy was given, and Rishi appeared where the corpse had just
been, having wandered through the rift. The Stavennites were careful
with the Gatekeeper, keeping their distance while confidently assuring
Rishi of their strength if things were to go awry.
After some time, the two - Leisane and Rishi - agreed upon a deal. The
Stavennites would complete a few tasks for the Gatekeeper, and would be
provided with gold, an opportunity for vengeance, and knowledge in
return. Although the tasks were daunting and throughout the ordeal the
Stavennites were visited by pesky "sandrats" (as Commander Clark called
them) like Kira Ashtear and Ageranu Agarwaen, the Stavennites proved
both their strength and intellect by completing them.
Moments later, as the Gatekeeper pushed the corpses through the rift, a
legion of demons appeared to serve him. Sending them on their way to
Antioch, the "sandrats" were given a fright as they appeared. However,
under the quick action of Kira, Ageranu, and Rudha the city was
organized and ready to attack back.
In the confusion, however, a demonhunter had wandered into the city with
a desire to help. The first reaction of the Antiochians was to slay him
too, but after a bit of reconsideration they allowed him to help hunt
down the demons and help them make their way through Demon's Pass. The
antimagickers, consisting of Taina, Guardas, Eilynn, Aidan, Andrea,
Abran, Iolana, Grantz, Nepenthe, Toma, Blyth, Mikhael, Kira, Ageranu,
Kaveri, Nepenthe, Theres, Evijan, Eilynn, Kayte, Shaun, Silphy,
Silmeria, and Konda, were quick to sort through the demons they found,
and launch a counter attack against their masters.
Meanwhile, Morgo was given to Leisane, and Stavenn, as the final
agreement between him and the Gatekeeper. As he attempted to settle into
his new home in Stavenn, he was caught once more chewing deliberately on
the finger of some unknown corpse.
