It is a dark evening in the Khandava council when their beloved and
trusted Prophet, Harker Sunjackal, calls all those present to gather in
the Library of the Woods to reveal his long-term goals to the citizens
of the Council. He credited his beliefs while speaking of Khandava's
prosperity, and promised that his beliefs would continue to carry the
Council. Those gathered congratulated themselves and even Harker on
their flourishing council.
Thus, the scene was set for Harker to reveal his true intentions. The
skies overhead darkened with a reddish thundercloud that growled
angrily, and the shrine to the Red Maiden that stood in the library
seethed in a hellish light. With a breath, Harker revealed to his
citizens that he was the Sacred Fury, Prophet of Wrath, and consecrated
the Council in Her name. He named Her the Matron of Khandava, and
declared it the Council of Wrath. The assembled Khandavans stood
stunned, unsure of what to do. However, most of them had come to
Khandava at the call of the Red Maiden, and they were pleased.
In the months following this change, it became clear to the citizens of
Khandava that their Prophet had planned this for quite some time. Over
the years of his rule, more and more came to the council at the silent
request of the Order of Wrath. Those that supported Harker worked to
make Khandava a stronghold, an unassailable fortress in the woods, and
sought out the Wrath inherent in the wood to nurture it, growing a
Council of Wrath from the redwoods of Khandava. As the plan progressed,
those working alongside and from within the Order of Wrath labored for
the Council, earning respected places within the hierarchy. The most
influential of which proving to be Harker Sunjackal, both Prophet of
Wrath and Prophet of Khandava, Zarilyn Pae'ganis, a long standing
Arboreal Secretary and Caliph of Khandava, and Alakshmi S'Sylistha, the
guildmistress of the Saboteurs. The laws written so precisely by the
Prophet proved to seal the power of the devotees of Wrath, and they made
their move, turning the Council over to their Mistress.
As all this was realized, Khandava nearly destroyed itself. Cries arose
from the Arboreals guild to flee their beloved Khandava. Caitlin, the
Arboreals' guildmistress, at once made plans to move the guild to the
wilds, or to Celidon. Celidon, meanwhile, closed its doors to
Khandavans, taking precautions to ensure that no children of Wrath would
make their nest within their council next. However, the more pragmatic
of the Arboreals were to prevail in this matter, Saraswati and Fedith,
both respected secretaries determined that to leave Khandava in this
state of affairs would seal the redwood forest's fate for good. They
decided that this was a battle the Arboreals would have to fight.
As this was decided, Harker and his allies saw that Khandava was at last
awake to itself, and its people did not want the Red Maiden as their
Matron. They did not want Her Prophet as their Prophet. They wanted
their Council back. As Wrath left Khandava, vowing never to return, the
council was struck a mortal wound as the list of those in Wrath's
service had grown so far that the leadership of Khandava was nearly
entirely under their control. Khandava could begin to build, to awaken
from a twenty-year sleep, during which they had nearly lost their home
forever to the Red Maiden.
