For the few of you who'll probably care to read this...
On the 11th, I'm going into the hospital for a critical surgery.
In attempts to make a long story short, back in 1998, I was diagnosed
with Osteosarcoma. Bone cancer, for those of you who don't know, in my
left femur. Went through a years worth of chemotherapy, and was lucky
enough to find a surgeon who could remove the shrunken area of the
cancer, and save my leg by replacing most of my left femur with a
titanium rod implant, partial false knee replacement, and donar bone.
Because of this operation, I had to have 2-3 operations per yet to
lengthen/fix the internal mechanics of the implant, as my leg would no
longer grow on its own, and/or would break down.
Unfortunately, moving to Las Vegas called the millitary to make me see a
new surgeon, and his first operation was malpracticed with negligence,
he left a piece of the mechanical implant out, and somehow allowed for a
colony of Staph bacteria to infect the implant, which can only be fixed
by removing such implants. However, the new surgeon said it wasn't
necessary and a years worth of IV antibiotics.
The infection wasn't in the body, and only on the implants, hence it was
never truly ridden of. Each time it has reoccured, it becomes more
resistant to the medication, and I just experienced a third coming of
imflammation from the infection.
So now, another -new- surgeon, which is slightly unfortunate, has
suggested that the entire implants be removed, and a cement-spacer block
with antibiotics is going to be placed in my left leg for 6-8 weeks
minimum, in attempts to clear all infection. If that goes well, due to
me having about 30% of my original femur remaining, there's a 50% chance
they can reconstruct a new implant for me 2-4 weeks after. I wont be
walking till March/April as it is, assuming amputation wont be
necessary. But hey, bedprone gives me ample time to be here, heh.
Regardless, I most likely will be out from Tuesday to Friday resting,
and then I will be back. So...lets hope for the best, I guess.
