I gazed into the emptiness, the expanse of darkness that was my life.
Suffering needlessly, dying, fighting for those that only brought
strife.
With my eyes closed, dreaming, I became lost within my thoughts.
I leaned back into this darkness, contemplating what time has brought.
Betrayed and hunted by lies that brought me crashing further down.
I then asked myself quietly...Why does my face not wear a frown?
I am the mighty oak tree being constantly beaten by the wind.
But the wind does not understand, this only makes me stronger within.
Then why does the wind always do this to me...forcing me into the dark.
Why does it tear off my leaves and bend my branches slowly apart?
I asked of the wind...Why are you hurting me, what did I do?
It replied with a whisper...Because you stand against me and I fear you.
Slowly I opened my eyes and gazed at the expanse of what was left to me.
Cold, baren and empty were my branches...But what did I see?
Looking closely, a small child was sleeping within my twisted branch.
Tears flowed freely upon my face, this child is mine, me enhanced.
My soul quivered, and I changed from the tree into the woman I am now.
Gathering my son into my arms I placed a gentle kiss upon his brow.
I then noticed, standing beside me was my lover...a smile upon his face.
He whispered...Now you see my love, not everything was laid to waste.
