A girl sat alone in drifted snow
Her heart was broken in twain
What troubled her was for no one to know
She didn't lift a finger to blame

All around her, ice and snow had gathered
And she cried without an end in sight
Her skin was blue but she didn't seem bothered
As she continued to weep well into the night

The morning came and the sun was warm
The light reflected off the winter scene
And there seemed to be peace after the storm
And from out of the snow came small sprouts of green

Stealthily, a small fox did creep
Nuzzling the girl's small hand
The girl had finally cried herself to sleep
Despite the frozen, cold land

The red fox did smile, soft and meek
As it licked her tiny blue face
Bringing the warmth back into her cheek
Granting her new life, beauty and grace

Awaking with life and a smile so sweet
The girl looked around at her world
It was lush and green and newly complete
The roses around her already unfurled

"A new beginning, my child," the fox said to her
As she gaped in miraculous awe
She beamed and knelt to embrace the small creature
Her joy now utterly done with the thaw

With a laugh and a lick, the fox shimmered away
His promise for life around her so clear
So she took up her harp and began to play
Singing of the things she now held so dear

A new spring had come even after the snow
Promises, beginnings and life anew
And though it may seem extra hard to grow
Another's hope held for us always grew
