To die inside
While everyone looks on
Oblivious
Smile and nod
Step one
Step two
Pain
Step three
Step four
Numb
You speak the truth
But no understanding
They know all
And yet nothing
You smile
But it doesn't reach your eyes
But they don't see
Alone
In the middle of the crowd
Lonely
Surrounded by those who claim love
A broken doll
Surrounded by sparkling new toys
A ragged intake of breath
And the pain returns
Step one
Smile and nod
Step two
Cry with no tears
Step three
Die a bit more inside
Step four
Numb
Strength is a lie
Told by the delusioned weak
There is only survival
Happiness
An elusive butterfly
Visible but always just out of reach
Smile and nod
Stay numb
And die inside
