Kohav

Written by: Layla, The Midnight Song

You can listen but you cannot hear
You can look but you cannot see.
For midnight instils deepest fear-
Predator is he.

So wild are his emerald eyes,
And yet so tame his onyx pelt.
He sits beneath the palest moonrise
Where all his life he dwelt.

Like a figure cut from a starless night,
He prowls with stealthy silence.
And glimmering, with the briefest light,
Razor claws of immortal valiance.

A long, ebon tail that impatiently swishes
Over drowning cries of his prey
Until the final swipe that silences
The gored thing in his mouth begins to limply sway.

And now, upon the stillest, coldest twilight,
He lays to lick his blood-stained paws.
T'was then he fell into my sight...
But strangely I was not within his jaws!

My dearest, darkest friend,
My one and only Midnight Song.
A trust that will never end,
My Kohav, darling panther.

Penned by my hand on the 3rd of Aequitas, in the year 486 AD.
