Someone

I saw a candle - the flame burned like a familiar rain
It reminded me of the tears fallen
It leered at me with old, forgotten pain
It danced in rhythm, the sputtering fire
I saw a smiling face within
Reminded me that once, you were my desire.

That memory was a dam breaking in my heart
A trembling in the depth of my soul
Where to begin? When to depart?

The wonder on my face should you cross my path
To tell you all Ive never said
To douse the embers, or nudge memorys wrath
Makes me think of how you are doing now-
Whether tossed into the turmoil of a storm
Or if youre happy and free somehow.

(But its just)
A lot of water beneath the bridge I have burned
To seek out the answer
Or backtracking in the corners I have turned

Theyre not always answered by the sight of flames
The puzzles and questions in my life -
Because in the end, only a burned-out candle remains.
