Poetry News Post #757

Memory.

Written by: Performer Noor
Date: Wednesday, November 7th, 2007
Addressed to: Everyone

I changed a whole life, looking to outrun you,
outrun your broken promises, your empty love,
and I cared not to betray
the love true of family and friends.

"I will never leave you", you used to say,
and me, I trusted my soul to those words.
Sweet talking, and a prize, and your promise,
and look! Of them all, nothing.

You left me, I let you go without a word,
and you took everything, or almost...
behind you left but a single clothe, like forgotten,
forever a reminder of your presence in my life.

Now every night, I watch your clothe,
at times I look and I adore,
I don't touch it --I touch it, I bring it to my bed,
my arms wrap around it and I kiss it, searching for you.

And then I remember, "Never...", and you and me,
and I hate it and my claws run along it,
I spit at it, beat it, shake it,
calling it whore, reclaiming to it the love so easily forgotten.
I cry and I shout and I despair,
in the end, bringing it close to my face,
looking for your scent, my lips brushing the trace of your neck
and my hands running through the memory of your body.

The night ends, and I'm me again,
or who I think I am...
denying that my night, again,
was a slave to your memory.

Dedicated to the Warden of my heart.

Penned by my hand on the 8th of Fas, in the year 535 AD.

Onward to 2021
