Jeffrey

Once upon an eerie time,
many years ago,
long before I wrote this rhyme,
Jeffrey I did know.

His hair was long, his smile was bright,
a hunk he truly was.
Never dawned on him the light
why women him did pass.

He hung in taverns every day,
where he told great tales,
"'Bout all the quests I've done today"
and "My sword never fails".

Killed the dragon, saved the girl,
the treasure he had found,
but no matter twist or twirl
girls never stayed around.

When he hung around in a pub,
feeling quite depressed,
the waitress said: "Now listen, hub,
please give it a rest.

You've been drinking ale all day,
why don't you go home?"
But Jeffrey said, he did want stay:
"Tell me why I'm alone!"

The waitress wrinkled then her nose:
"Where did you today quest?"
"A fight in yonder bog arose.
It really was the best!"

A talk ensued, and then he learned
that women knew not greed.
It wasn't what he was or had,
a bath was all he'd need.

Penned by my hand on the 11th of Artificium, in the year 562 AD.
