12.4.12 The Village of Kaln
Nestled between the great powers Antioch and Khandava, the village of Kaln comprises of the ancestors of a family line that once resided just southwest of Antioch, along with more modern migratory inhabitants. Kaln was first founded upon a basis of tolerance and independence, by a family fleeing Antioch's violent and virulent rejection of magicks.
This family was tremendously talented in the arts: they relished in dances of various forms, and counted many talented crafters among their number as well. The crowning jewel among those many talents was that of the matriarch, who had the gift to weave sought-after, amazingly-detailed tapestries. By nimble fingers expertly wielding loom and needle, she could bring to life any scene which came to her mind. It was discovered that the beauty of her work was not only visual, but imbued with a tangiable magick. When those magickal abilities came to light, she and her family expeditiously fled their ancestral desert home, following north along the shores of the Aori peninsula, and finally settling in the refuge offered by a network of caverns piercing the southern face of the peninsula.
Within that asylum, grew the community of Kaln, and the ancestors of that family reside there to that day. Valuing tolerance, understanding, and community, they came under the proverbial boughs of the Leechtree and Khandava, and the two communities mixed to create a more cosmopolitan village. There those original founders, and newer migrants alike, can bask in the freedoms offered by their association, in a breezy, temperate paradise.
Above all other things, Kaln has come to represent the pursuit of one's highest potential, following in the example of the Matriarch that founded it.
