Ghosts in Kinsarmar

Upon the 18th day of Bellum, a chill settled suddenly in the air within
the city limits of Kinsarmar. From the eerie silence came the maddened
cries of Rufus, the locksmith. Screaming out in anguish, he cried for an
end to the mindless mutterings he had begun to hear. In reply to his
screams, Kinsarmarians immediately reported to his side.

They were greeted by a terrible sight. A ghost hovered over the
locksmith, flickering about in the chill room as it reached towards him,
interrupted only by the entry of the citizens. Hissing in reply, the
ghost disapeared to some other place just as Aranel appeared and
exclaimed that the others should not attack nor scare the ghost.

Scrambling back with Genviere at her side as escort, Aranel immediately
attempted to research the matter at hand while the other Kinsarmarians
tried to placate the ghost. By then, the ghost had appeared to the
librarian, causing panic as both Aranel and Genviere rushed out, only to
be escorted back by Kuroda, scaring the ghost away once more.

Sergeant Crombie could be heard not even moments later as a dark shadow
descended over the city, the chill growing stronger now that he had
cornered the ghost. It was there, as the citizens, who were led by
Bramondt, appeared to question the ghost. Lyiat attacked and was slain
by the spirit while the others attempted to assuaged it, only to find
out that the ghost was convinced none of them would understand why it
felt it had to haunt Rufus. Its actions had appeared as attacks after
all, and in the end, had placed every citizen on guard. It was then that
the ghost spoke that he had come to warn the smith, that the other
ghosts were coming just as the spoken of beings appeared.

Rushing instantly to the graveyard, the valiant Kinsarmarians slayed the
first of the ghosts while Rufus sat back in the forge, worrying. It was
there that more appeared; Bramondt led the attack with Sarrius and
Lalitana not far behind. Most of the fighters fell before the might of
the collective spirits before Bramondt managed to finally slay them with
the help of his citymates.

At Kinsarmar Crossroads, Rufus explained that he knew why the ghosts had
appeared. Vengeant spirits of the past, they were created during the
ancient Stavennite-Kinsarmar war. During this war, his children and wife
had died amongst many others that were part of his rebellion. The ghost
that had appeared to him first was identified as his son, the oldest of
his deceased children.

It was for this knowledge that the original ghost had appeared, and
satisfied with the answers it had found, requested to be put to rest. He
had been a fighter, having died on the battlelines in his effort to
return to his family. This had fueled his urge to appear before the
Rufus, seeking to know who he was, and how he had died. Now replete, all
he wished was to be given peace. Rufus found himself unable to raise his
blade to the haunted remnants of his own son, so he pleaded for help
from the gathered Kinsarmarians. Wary now of the ghosts that had plagued
their city, they were all too willing to help, and the finishing blow
was lain by Sarrius.

Penned by my hand on the 22nd of Bellum, in the year 561 AD.
