Early in the month of Fas, the kobold oracle of a reclusive tribe of kobolds ventured out from her colonies native cave located within the byley plains. After searching and wandering for several restless days, she came across the first signs of a village, only to find the traces of life hidden behind a massive boulder. With a bit of calling and crying for help, this poor kobold was able to call for the help was able to attract the attention of two forest natives. Greggory Shaolar and Krystalia Moonaires arrived seeking all they could from the wearied and panicked oracle. The oracle was able to impart her warning and what little knowledge she had, but, perhaps as a terrible act of foreshadowing, a small army of Demoners charged into the passive party and interrupted the meeting. One vital piece of information lingered however, a warning of armies of darkness soon to come.
Later that month, the inevitable events of the Oracles visions came to pass. All throughout Aetherius a tremor could be felt as a mild quake sent the Byley Plains into a tumultuous situation. The tremors unleashed a mudslide caused by the shaking earth and the harsh winter that had saturated the ground with an abundance of fresh water from the melting snow. While this tremor caused the obvious opening in the earth, it also cracked open a fissure in the caves below.
Investing this trembling, Ivekaesis & Greggory, unable to find the oracle, went to the only place where kobolds currently reside. They managed to locate Kharkhar, the kobold Shaman of the village near the Savannah. It was here, that they first learned that the army to come was a horde of demons, the likes of which had not been seen in the land since before the age of Awakening. Kharkhar was able to give them this little bit of information, and also locate, to his astonishment, the kobold that they spoke of.
After speaking briefly with the Oracle who had taken refuge in the Nogba Wetlands, Greggory along with Eludien, Kerax and Ivekaesis eagerly went to engage the army they knew was now drifting across the plains. After a few quick engagements and a realization of the severity of this threat, many others came to join in the fray including Andun, Iroth, Eamari, Atheriel, Dias, Kaeralyse and Oburi.
After many deaths suffered, the adventurers were able to collect the heads of well over a hundred of these ferocious demons. With a bit of help from the Oracle, they were able to locate the source of the incursion, and after much talk and discussion, a plan was devised to attempt to quickly seal off their gateway. With a bit of ingenuity, the group was able to temporarily seal the demons within the cave, as they prepared for a more elaborate plan to be rid of this hovel of demons forever.
The caves very foundation was weakened with the constant tremors and the violent combat taking place within. With the weakened foundation, the adventurers were forced to halt their efforts for the month and allow the ground to settle as the water evaporated in the early spring weather. It was however reluctantly that they settled with this situation, for many methods were attempted to hasten nature's effects, such as heat generated from crystalism, or removing the very moisture from the air with nature's aid. In the mean time, the Oracle had no home to return to as the caves and her tribe were made inaccessible when the cave was sealed, and with the Oracle's troubles momentarily abated, her curiosity was turned toward the settlement of kobolds. Her tribe had long thought that they were the last of their kind, and the party willingly obliged her as they took her to the kobold settlement in the Savannah. It was both a conversation of interest and intrigue, but the light mood would not last, as talks of relocating the Oracle's tribe to the Savannah were necessary, as not even the Oracle or Shaman knew how the adventurers plans would affect the cave or army. It was with these heavy topics that the talks faded, and the Oracle and Shaman retired to discuss further about their respective tribes.
A month passed rapidly, and with the land settled once again, they were able to resume their expedition into the caves to try and stop the oncoming army. By this point hundreds of demons had risen and now patrolled the Byley plains and the cave below. The Oracle contacted Greggory Shaolar again through the use of Kharkhar's apprentice, Dhark. A letter was sent to relay the message that the time was now, the ground had settled and the moisture had returned to its normal levels. The caves would be able to survive the plans that the eager adventurers had planned. They quickly took to the task and with the coordination of several mages were able to release a cataclysmic event as a dozen globes of elemental fire blasted open the cave once again, and the previously sealed demons that had been gathering in the caves spilled out into Aetherius again.
As the demonic incursion was being quelled, Stavenn began to play its first part in these events as Arvanian, Mishka and Fahrer began to assault the Kinsarmarian forces. This distraction was all that the demons needed, and less than a day later the army began to surge forward into the nearby settlements of Celidon and Kinsarmar. This assault was what it took for a coordinated effort to surge ahead, as it was these attacks that prompted the first unified response from Kinsarmar. The demons that lingered within the caves were quickly vanquished, and the haste of the adventurers almost rushed ahead prematurely as the lives of the kobold tribe were forgotten in their zealous purging of the demonic taint. The adventurers rushed hastily ahead and proceeded to use the same unfocused attack of many timed elemental explosions, but the fissure here was a more permanent cave structure and did not budge.
It was after that initial assault that the kobold Oracle first caught wind that the adventurers may have forgotten her tribe. She quickly pled with the leaders of the Kinsarmarian forces, and reminded them that she needed to evacuate her tribe. With this reminder, the forces rallied quickly to retrieve the Oracle and bring her to her people. They were able to quickly bring her back into the caves, where she was able to climb into the hidden crevices and talk part of her tribe into leaving. However, the numbers were far less than half, and only Kyr'crhx, the Chieftain's son was willing to leave of the notable kobolds in the tribe. While discussions continued and Dias, a Kinsarmarian representative attempted to speak with the tribe's hierarchy, Stavenn attempted another attack on the forces. This attack was quickly stopped as their allies rallied to their aid and the collective force of kobolds helped defend their allies. The Oracle once again was left pleading for more time and a delay despite the cave being open for demons to flood the realm. She was desperately trying to convince more of her tribe to leave the unsafe cave, and Kinsarmar, in their mercy, granted the Oracle this time.
It was some time later that the Oracle finally gave up on her efforts, and lacking appropriate foresight she waited too long to give up on this effort. While she had finally managed to persuade most of her tribe to evacuate the caves, she had waited so long as to allow time for the most ancient demons to rise to the surface of the fissure. She hastily contacted Kinsarmar again, asking for a swift escort from the cave, and offering her warning of the imminent danger.
The force which was gathered consisted of Yahiko, Ruwin, Seraiah, Ivekaesis, Eamari, Greggory, Pellerin, Kerax, Nagato, Ivellios, Mathiaus, Dias, Insinyan, Andun, Iroth, Atheriel, Kaeralyse and Oburi, which moved to evacuate the Oracle and her fellow tribe members to the kobold settlement. The refugees were awaiting the arrival of the forces, and the evacuation went off without much incident. Once the refugees were evacuated, the gathered forces made one last move to prepare and set forth to undertake the ancient demons that were now beginning to rise from the fissure.
The battle was fierce as dozens of the beztyr demons now roamed the paths of the caves and prowled the plains openly. Two ancient demons had managed to rise and while the party slew one without incident, the second weathered the onslaught of adventurers and was able to slay over half a dozen adventurers single-handedly. The party quickly regrouped and armed with more knowledge of their adversary was able to overwhelm the beast. Their preparations were well rehearsed and their supplies ready. After seeing the forces that were prepared to set forth across the land of Aetherius the group acted quickly to ready the bombs and charges it had prepared and worked to place them in strategic points. They worked to harness the weaker points of the fissure, and while the non-concentrated force from the holocaust globes was insufficient with their earlier attempt, this blast was not. The charges were placed well and fused together intricately with a length wick, but no chances were going to be taken when dealing with this problem and further bombs were thrown into the area at a distance to make sure that the bombs all ignited.
The cave began to shake and the whole of the plains rumbled as these charges violently detonated. Hundreds of tons of rubble were sent cascading into the fissure that had allowed the demons to escape. The boulders were not limited to just the fissure however, and rubble from the collapses now lines various parts of the cave.
The adventurers made sure that the caves were clear of demons, and since then, the kobold tribe has scouted the cave, and the forces made sure to clear the caves of remaining. As it stands, the kobolds that remained in the cave are now coming out of hiding and the relocated kobolds are making their way back home forever appreciative of the forces that saved their home, did so much for their people, and will last in their oral histories for many years to come.
