The Dance of the Locusts

A mournful tune was heard throughout Antioch this day, the cheerless refrain of a lone flute. The melody began to stir the animals of the Sands as its song began to quicken, flowing into a lively composition. Throughout the sanded streets a loud buzzing from the sewers gave way to swarms of locusts rising from behind sealed grates. Confusion abounded, how were the locusts escaping? Several within Antioch began to stir and question. The indomitably fierce ladies known as Kira Ashtear, Hand of Vahin and the fiery Zerin Arkadis stormed over the streets, slaying the swarm and seeking answers. Kunew Savann, an adherent of Peace, sought a different remedy to the situation within the annals of the library.

A voice was heard, yelling over the walls and gates, and was answered by Kunew Savann who hoped to negotiate a peaceful resolve. The voice belonged to a vagabond, a traveling minstrel who continued to play his song which forced the city to dance amongst the bodies of the locusts. Kira, Zerin, Kunew and Raslin found the minstrel and questioned him. His answers were nonsensical and childish as he ranted and raved about the lack of musical joy within the city. Before he was slain, he spoke of deceptions within Antioch and of trusted liars. He begged to be dispatched to the Underworld, grasping his flute as he died.

Was this a silly exercise in musical futility and annoying minstrels, or possibly the beginning of an end. Questions surround the matriarch of Antioch, but will answers be easily given?

Penned by my hand on the 19th of Tenebrae, in the year 643 AD.
