In the frozen, forbidden wastelands of the north, the great Wendigo met
with Harker, the self appointed leader of Ithaqua. Fearing the demons
pouring from the foul rift hidden in the Vardarian Highlands, he
informed those gathered of an ancient guild of men. The Wardens had
encountered this same disturbance in the far past. These frontier men
had sealed the rift, imprisoning the demons within.

The Wendigo proceeded to pass the lost knowledge of the Wardens on to
Harker, binding him to three simple tasks. One, he must seal the
northern rift. Two, he must spread the knowledge of the Wardens, once
the rift was sealed. Three, he was forbidden to pass the knowledge to
women, stating it would dishonor the history of the Wardens.
