Ponderings

Some would say the beautiful entity of charity
Could never wear out its welcome
It would seem an issue of infinite simplicity
Except its final visit has left me undone

Where is my answer
Why must I ask the question
It eats away like a cancer
And threatens with its confession

Charity and death share the sweet kiss of bliss
That beckons into eternity
With infinite rest as its promise
And labor as its reality

Where is my reason
To question this fact of life
It changes like a season
And cuts like a knife

"Without shedding of blood is no remission..."
No other sacrifice will this sin atone
So now is the time of hard decision
To leave behind and stand alone

Where is my strength
Why do I feel so strong
And yet am I weak
I know not if I am wrong

Penned by my hand on the 19th of Artificium, in the year 422 AD.
