The Eulogy of Mother

The Eulogy of Mother

Oh mother darkest, oh father light
Both to share domain on the wheel of life
Both sitting on the thrones of day and night
The two brought love, the two brought strife

(But the Lady bore a son her own)

Crowned in fortune, crowned by fate
'Twas a bright heart, so warm so fair
A golden spirit who sought to create
As shadows' voices sung despair

(The Lady heard and so she listened)

Shown he courage, shown he strength
Though hope might wane within the tower
Once swore a man in honor and faith
'Til innocence fell the final hour

(The Lady saw and so she watched)

Born the northwind, born the bane
Wandered wastes of empty tomorrow
Infallible questions were answered in vain
In crept black to ease the sorrow

(The Lady calls and her child returns)

Tears so fond, tears of joy
Among the cool shade they find repose
A mother smiles as she cradles her child
A thorny embrace about the rose

(The Lady sips her child's soul)

But memories surface, memories white
The cry of a noble friend doth resound
Lost truth returns in a bolt of light
Mother darkest lay broken upon the ground

(No longer the grey soul is bound)

Penned by my hand on the 21st of Artificium, in the year 485 AD.
