Never Trust Tomorrow

Written by: Layla, The Midnight Song

Tomorrow I will sing my heart
Tomorrow I will sing the truth
Tomorrow all will be at peace
You'll see tomorrow will be alright.
But tomorrow comes, tomorrow goes
And still my heart finds no repose
Tomorrow lied and was still as dark
Tomorrow still was cold and stark.
I was naive to think such petty thoughts
To wish on faded stars and dying hopes
I let its arms wrap around my heart
To squeeze it tight and let the blood ooze out.
But when there was nothing more to squeeze
I let it back in again to do as it pleased
Again it fooled and played my soul
Now there's nothing left to play or squeeze.
With tomorrow gone and today long dead
I was daft and sought to clear my head.
I downed my pain unbelievably fast
One glass devoid and another down my throat.
I fled to Dis and tried to hide
From truth, from pain and from the it.
The it that never let me sleep at night
The it that gave me both pleasure and fright.
But free from my body as a barren soul
I could suddenly see the culprit of it all
It was not the it that was not blame
It was not him or her or them.
If my body were there then tears would flood
But it was just my naked soul to see it all
The villain of this whole cruel game
The terrible thing that was to blame:

The naive child trapped inside of me.

Penned by my hand on the 10th of Bellum, in the year 485 AD.

Onward to 2021
