Glendar

What stands before you is a brief account of the early days in the life
of Glendar.

My people, we were a nomadic tribe that once traveled across the vast
face of Aetherius. We were a proud tribe, living of the what the forest
provided us, never using more then we needed and replacing what we
could. While we were fierce hunters, the woodland creatures respected us
and we in turn respected them. We were lycaean and we were content.

I use the word 'were' because my tribe is no more.

There was a time of great unrest, creatures we had never laid eyes on
before invaded the woods, leaving death and destruction in their wake.
At first our great warriors tried to defend the land but they quickly
fell to these horrible beasts. Our elders ordered the woman and children
to flee while the rest of the tribe tried to give them time to escape. I
wanted to stay and fight, but as I was still but a pup I was commanded
away...to defend the woman I was told.

"The tribe must go on" These words echo in my head even today, a
haunting reminder of things past.

Of course I did not like this order, but I obeyed, what choice did I
have. Besides, its probably the only reason I am alive today. Leaving
all our possessions behind we took to flight through the trees. Many a
creature can not keep up with one of my kind while we are sprinting at
full pace, but these things gave such a chase that we had not a second
to spare. As we cleared the forest we could hear the last of our
warriors screaming from death, a horrible bone-chilling death. A slight
pause was all we could muster before seeing those terrible black
creatures emerging from the trees. Our flight continued across vast
plains and through lands I had never seen. Still they followed.
Eventually our path took us into a vast dessert, a journey we were
obviously were not prepared for. While we eventually lost the beasts
over the days and nights that followed we also found we had lost
ourselves. We were a strong people, we would not let this land of barren
sand defeat us. At least thats what we thought. Soon our numbers began
to dwindle as the old and sick gave out. Then as even as the rest of us
began to succumb to the wasteland a great storm of sand came upon us.
Having never encountered such a thing before we did not take proper
shelter and in time became separated from each other. I last remember
crawling towards...something...anything to protect me from the biting
sand.

Then I awoke, briefly, as water was poured down my throat. Bright sun in
my eyes.

Again my eyes opened for a bit as I was being carried somewhere. My body
felt numb and my thoughts were hazy. All I could see as my head bobbed
from the rough journey was sand everywhere and that bright sun.

At last I awoke and I found myself in a great city. A city called
Antioch. I was rescued by a people known as the Disciples of the Dance.
For this I was grateful but the news that I was the only one they found
alive was heart wrenching. These things that attacked us, I would later
learn were demons and against them and those that brought them forth I
swore revenge. I took up the blade and learned the dance of war.

Years past and as my skill improved I felt a yearning I did not
understand. My time to take the first test of my guild was at hand. Yet
I hesitated. Why?

I found myself walking out into the great desert once again. Only now I
could not get lost, this was my home...or was it?

My feet found the path toward the great spring but soon I wandered off
of it. Not really knowing where I was going or why? I did not care. Soon
I was deep in a forest somewhere between Celidon and Sienna. A forest I
knew. I felt the life around me, the trees, the birds, even the very air
felt different. I suddenly felt a belonging that I had never felt in all
my years with the Dancers and citizens of Antioch. They were my friends
perhaps, but I never felt it a home. And that is where I find myself
today. Lost but alive.

Penned by my hand on the 17th of Vita, in the year 438 AD.

2021 and Beyond

Hello Imperian! Another year passes! A few months from now will mark my second year on Aetherius. Time sure flies! However, the vast majority of this wouldn’t happen without our wonderful team of volunteers. Kiandre and Valethar have been with me since last year, and are instrumental with the work they have done for the…

Onward to 2021

Hi folks! This year has been a challenge on many of us, and I can only hope the next year goes by more smoothly. Having said that, we have reached the end of 2020, woo! This was my first not-quite-a-year on Imperian, and it has been a whole learning experience. It has been a bit…
