The Crossroads of the Imperial Parade and Via Efferus. As my soul
re-acclimated with the stagnant scent of Stavenn, I quickly slipped into
the shadows hidden in the darkest corners of the dirt path that lay
before me. This is a routine that has become second nature to me. Until
this...
Adesh has been slain by the magickal forces of Elemental Apprentice,
Alroth Kith'Vahni.
So began my first real encounter with the power that is Cataclysm.
(Note, the following paragraph may be skipped if you know the use of
Cataclysm, it is simply to inform those who don't).
What is Cataclysm? For those of you who are unaware, it is a Magickal
vibe imbued by three Mages, once layed (outside), its power allows any
caster to target and hit any other person (who is outside and unshielded
- tattoo, or otherwise) with several spells: Transfix, which either
strips a target of blindness and then will transfix them (forcing the
poor chap to -writhe- out), use one of four elemental forms of
powerfully damaging spell known as staffcast, and or literally freeze
the target so as to make them immobile. This "vibration" can be used
from anywhere, behind the city walls, where any numerous amount of
guards may protect the Mages who would harness this awesome power;
ultimately making it nearly impossible for any one person to possibly
slay a Mage(s) who would participate. How many can cast through this
vibe? There is no limit. Once imbued any number of Mages: one, or
several dozen, can cast any of the three spells listed above and use it
against someone who is many hundreds of miles away.
As it has been said before me, with all great power, comes great
responsibility. This fact holds especially true when it comes to
Cataclysm. So now I question the Leadership of the Mages, why me? Why
was I subjected to this pre-emptive attack? I am no enemy of the city of
Kinsarmar, nor an enemy of any of the residing guilds in the said city.
After asking Laia, Guildmistress of the Mages these questions, I was
elicited with one short reply. Laia tells you, "Apologies if you weren't
in the war, it won't happen again."
Well thankee for that. That was justifiable? I think not. Certainly that
restores my faith in the guild leadership of the Mages (read: Laia).
With my question still unanswered I took it upon myself to walk to
Kinsarmar for answers. Upon reaching my destination at the Kinsarmar
Crossroads I yelled out to the Northern city --
I yelled out, "Since the grand leader of the Mages refuses to speak to
me, other than "Apologies if you weren't in the war, it won't happen
again." - (Quote from Laia). I ask the rest of Kinsarmar, what was the
justifiable reason for my being killed through the use of Cataclysm? Am
I enemied to any of the guilds in Kinsarmar? No. Am I enemied to the
city of Kinsarmar? No. So tell me great City of the North, what is your
reason behind it?"
Almost simultaneously I was told to shut up by several people including
Wysrias and Lachlan (though I'm sure they have their reasons -
especially when Lachlan was part of the tri-Mage "get together" that
inevitably led to my death). Immediately following their curt responses,
Kyar tells you, "Leave the city, and shush. Or you'll explode."
That's excellent! The City of Kinsarmar is defending the use of
Cataclysm behind their walls, against someone who isn't an enemy of the
Mages, Bards, or Lorekeepers, or even the whole of Kinsarmar. I vaguely
recall someone mentioning grace abuse by Stavennites? While that may
have certainly held some truth to it, the abuse of Cataclysm with
numerous guards protecting, is that not abuse too? I guess to determine
that, the definition of "abuse" needs to be clearly defined.
- To use wrongly or improperly; misuse.
- To hurt or injure by maltreatment; ill-use.
- An unjust or wrongful practice: a government that abuses their power.
Therefore I will make the claim that a certain part of Kinsarmar is
corrupt.
If certain people respond to this I'm sure they'll make the claim I'm
whining/b*tching/etc; about a single death. They'll claim some sort of
stress related bull about how during times of war "accidents" happen.
Regardless, the point I'm making is that a guild leader cannot base
their decisions on little or no evidence. Further, I will say that a
City that promotes this violence is no better than a City who wishes the
destruction of others. Ultimately, this pseudo-monarchy with a system
of... dare I say "democracy" is apparently non-existant, suffice to say
Cataclysm is as of now being used irresponsibly, led by an incapable
leader.
