First and foremost, let me elaborate on the nature of this article:
Definably, sanctity is the quality or condition of being considered
sacred. Definably, life is the state of existence in which an organism
is capable of all vital functions necessary to exist. Life is
also--definably--the state of existence bestowed by the Divine upon all
persons.
I am not so naive as to be unaware to the necessity of life and death,
nor am I so naive as to believe that I will never kill another being.
However, I am in the belief that life is a Divine gift, and one to be
treated with respect. At this very moment, I denounce the aspect of
mindless killing for grudges, for arguments, for petty matters as
blasphemy. It is undisputable that the Gods have bestowed each and every
one of us in existence with life; we were brought to such by the Gods
Themselves explicitly. I also understand that everyone will die, and
that this is a natural cycle of life, and I utterly accept that.
However, this gift is not to be prematurely thrown away in a disgusting
act of insubordinate revolt.
The Divine deserve better, and you know it.
It is not so difficult a matter to find the passage tokens within the
realm of Lord Thanatos, nor so difficult a task to seek out a person to
perform resurrection-- as indeed the shortened term "ress" or "rezz" has
become notoriously frequent within my own city as of late. However, most
of these resurrective deaths are the cause of short-horned locusts, or
to the threat of other malevolent forces lurking in the sewers, as is
commonplace for trash. These precise notions I believe makes us much
more desensitized towards the factor of death. It is by the will of the
Divine that we are presented with such options, and I believe our
grateful nature has worn deeply away.
These ideals are openly given by our own general response to dying. The
common response for many--yet not all, heed me--experienced people
within the realm is to retaliate (provided graciously by the PK scroll)
against that which struck them down. Spend the gold, eat linseed and
suffer the consequences of knowledge. Violence begets violence--in my
brief existence upon Aetherius, I have watched the Deathsight continue
on and on, and several names tally upon one another. So-and-so has been
slain by such-and-such, only to see but a few days later within the same
month, such-and-such has lost a head to the blade of so-and-so. I
believe the term is "vicious cycle." Is there a purpose? Infamy is to be
gained, surely, for the blatant disregard of a Divine gift is openly
displayed; yet few think of this consequence.
I do not propose any stop of murder--I may be but a fool, but I am never
so foolish as to believe in utter pacifism. After all, as stated: Death
is necessary. People will kill people, and that is a simple fact of
life. However, I beg you to reconsider your natures, I plead that you
recognize the foolishness of hastily rushing headlong into combat and
oblivion for simple nature of revenge. Revenge is a filthy notion, only
able to be pure when rectified by genuine emotion; the likes of which
are not perceived by the emotion anger.
I reiterate: Life is a blessing of the Divine, I bid all to handle it
more gently, and to better view one's own existence as something to be
treasure--not brutalized and mistreated.
