The Hyena and the Scorpion

Written by: Pahii, the Desert Fox

The hyena had fleas and tried day and night to get rid of them, for his
skin was made to itch so much that he thought he would die. As the hyena
walked through the dunes one day, itching, he came upon a hole in the
ground. Out of the hole came a black scorpion. This scorpion was very
hungry.

"Friend Hyena, why are you scratching so?" said the Scorpion.
"There are fleas on my back! I cannot rid myself of them, but I must or
I will go mad!" said the hyena.
"I could help you," said the Scorpion slyly.
"No! You will sting me with your tail," cried the hyena.
"But look at me, I do not have fleas. This is because I have the cure
here in my home. Just put your paw in this hole and I will put the cure
in it for you to take with you," cooed the Scorpion.

The hyena did not trust the scorpion, but just at that moment his skin
started to burn and itch and he thought that any help was better than
none. The hyena stuck his paw into the scorpion's home and just as he
did, he felt the pain of many stings in his paw. And so the hyena met
his end, paralyzed in the sand and still itching from the fleas.

Is our answer in the pit of scorpions or in the cup that a cat of Magrek
carries around? I say it is in the prayers of the faithful and the power
of the Great Spirits. Let them hear our prayers and do battle in the
skies on our behalf.

Penned by my hand on the 6th of Aequitas, in the year 460 AD.
