Being an overly wealthy bachelor occasionally has its advantages, like
squandering money on senseless pursuits. To celebrate this fact I've
designed a contest to allow the ladies of the world an opportunity to
demonstrate their creative skills and performing talents, and even earn
prizes while doing so.
~~JURAN'S DANCE COMPETITION~~
For the next two years, until the end of Bellum in the year 475AD, I
will be accepting entries for a talent contest specialized for dancers.
Participants will be judged on their creativity, costuming, style, and
detail. Any kind of dancing is allowed so long as it falls within the
set of boundaries described below. Credit prizes will be awarded the top
three winners, with a minimum of 50/25/10 credits per prize. Multiple
honorable mention prizes will be awarded to notable performances; with
gold, jewelry, woodcrafting, herb, and elixir prizes of various types
and amounts all being possible.
~~~~~~~~~~\Details\~~~~~~~~~~
The type of dance performed will not be a determining factor in the
competition. Dancers are free to perform anything that they're
comfortable with, either publicly or privately. Participants will need
to mail me a letter or message me about entering, and then we can set up
a time for the performance when we're both in the realm. Public dances
will be done in either Kinsarmar, Antioch, or Khandava for security
reasons. Private dances can be done anywhere that I'm not enemied to.
The winners will all be contacted privately at the end of the
competition, and any among them who wish their names disclosed will be
announced publicly two months after the contest ends at an awards
ceremony. You don't have to want your name given out in order to win.
Scripts of the actual dances performed will not be released (so don't
ask), but the style may be added to the award if the performer doesn't
object.
This is a purely artistic contest, so there will be no interaction
during the dance. For example, if a performer was to act out a dramatic
ballet, all parts of that ballet must be done by her. Each dancer is to
perform alone and I am only present to watch and judge. Interacting with
the judge is fine, but you won't get a response. So throw your flowers
and have them land in my lap if you wish, but don't wait for me to
visibly catch them.
To keep the competition fair, the use of illusions is forbidden. If this
were exclusively a Bardic competition at the Silver Harp, it wouldn't be
an issue. But since not every skilled performer has access to feign, it
is in the best interest of the competition to disallow it completely.
Unless interrupted somehow, each performer is limited to only one entry.
Singing is allowed, but it's primarily a dance competition. Therefore,
attempt to keep at least a majority of the entry physical instead of
verbal. Any singing done should accompany the dance, and not the other
way around.
Because this is worth repeating: The style of the dance is not what I'll
look at when determining a winner. Seductive dances are a perfectly
valid form of artistic expression, but those who are comfortable
performing that will have no particular advantage or disadvantage over
those that do other varieties. I'm allowing all forms of dancing in
order to keep the participation level high. Not everyone has had
experience dancing in the cultured and traditional Bardic fashion. The
creativity and detail exhibited while performing will determine the
winner.
Good luck to everyone that wishes to participate. Feel free to contact
me with questions, and happy dancing!
