12.4.19 Ssyra
To understand Ssyra, one must know a bit about the history of the ssylsin race. Long ago, a splinter group of Caananites settled in the western jungles. An earthquake tore a chunk of the western mountain jungle asunder, separating this people from the mainland. The newly formed island was moved far out to sea. In time, the Breaking of the Moon caused the people to evolve into the first ssylsin. Upon this jungle island, the ssylsin thrived and became strong. Their explorations eventually led them to interactions with the ocean dwelling lamirans, who assisted the serpentine people in reaching the mainland of Aetherius. Seeking a home much like that of their island, the ssylsin settled in the Dun Valley. They came into contact with the kohdon there, and a hatred began to grow between these two races as they fought against one another for dominion of the lush valley. Ssylsin are a hardy people who have survived for many years in Aetherius. The people of Ssyra have a tribal society which is deeply religious. Most all of the Gods are accepted there with the exception of Lord Zanik, Whom many feel is at odds with our rustic way of life. Many in the towne embrace the philosophy of Death. Ssylsin death dancers in particular follow the teachings of Death in their day-to-day lives. A great spirit resides within the area, going by the name of Synnessyra. This being tends to take either the form of an enormous python or a large, ssylsin man. The towne itself was named after him in honour of the blessing he bestowed upon the towne in times past. It is said that Synessyra watches over the Ssyran tribe to this day. For this, the ssylsin people of the towne hold a solemn respect for this powerful spirit in the Nogba Wetlands. It is of note that at one time the people of Ssyra did not even welcome other ssylsin to their towne. Things have changed, with the exception of the ancient grudge which the ssylsin denizens of the swamp still hold against the kohdon people. Visiting kohdon should not expect to find a warm welcome from the townesfolk. People of other races will most likely find a rather indifferent welcome in Ssyra. The towne has begun to become more open in recent times, and relations appear to be improving.
